Julie has a strong passion for her art and has won a number of awards for her work. Her styles are diverse ranging from realistic (often with a contemporary twist) to sophisticated adult whimsical. She works in both electronic and hand-rendered illustration. In addition to over 100 watercolor giclee prints in various galleries, her art can be found on garden flags, door mats, gift bags, holiday ornaments and figurines, trays, clocks, trivets, tableware, stationery products and much more.
In 1991, Touch of Design was established. For the first few years, Julie worked both from her home studio and in-house at various illustration studios, design firms, and ad agencies. In 1998, she opened a storefront gallery/studio in downtown White Bear Lake where she sold her art, worked as an illustrator, and taught watercolor classes. Julie started licensing her work in 2001 and in October of 2004, the decision was made to focus on her illustration and licensing. She discontinued teaching and closed the gallery.
Julie’s work can be found under two different names: Julie Dobson Miner is the name used to market her fine art and Dobers is a whimsical line. Dobers is named after her late father, Floran Dobson, better known as “Dober”.
Julie is a full-time artist and spends her days working in her home studio overlooking Forest Lake of Forest Lake, Minnesota. She enjoys the company of her husband and two sons as well as her two golden retrievers and 3 needy parrots.
